Naproxen belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal antinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which work by blocking the effect of chemicals in your body that are known as cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes. By blocking these enzymes, the body produces fewer prostaglandins which cause pain and inflammation. Blocking these chemicals reduces the discomfort associated with period pain, meaning you can get on with your day.
