Gaviscon Infant prevents reflux by stabilising the stomach contents, so reducing the incidence of reflux and bringing up of feeds.
Reflux occurs in babies because the muscles at the base of their food pipe are not fully developed, allowing milk to come back up easily.
Symptoms of reflux in babies include:
- Bringing up milk or being sick during or shortly after feeding
- Coughing or hiccuping when feeding
- Being unsettled during feeding
- Swallowing or gulping after burping or feeding
- Crying and not settling
- Not gaining weight due to not retaining enough food
Sometimes, babies may exhibit signs of reflux without bringing up milk or being sick, a condition known as silent reflux.
