Gaviscon Double Action Suspension combines two antacids (calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate) and an alginate, and these work in two ways:
- neutralise excess stomach acid to relieve the pain and discomfort
- forms a protective barrier over the stomach contents to soothe the burning pain in your chest
This soothing mint flavoured suspension is used for the treatment of symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux, including:
- acid regurgitation
- heartburn and indigestion
These symptoms may occur, for example, following meals or during pregnancy.
This medicine is also used to treat symptoms of excess stomach acid (hyperacidity).
Like all medicines, Gaviscon Double Action Suspension can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Very rarely an allergic reaction to the ingredients may occur. Symptoms of this may include skin rash, itching, difficulty breathing, dizziness, swelling of the face, tongue or throat. If you think you are experiencing an allergic reaction seek medical advice immediately.
If you experience any other side effects, stop taking the product and consult your doctor immediately.
This medication can affect how your body processes other medications. Do not take this product for two hours after taking other medicines.
You can take this product if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
If symptoms persists, seek medical advice. Contains sodium and calcium. If you have been advised to follow a diet restricted in either of these please consult your doctor before taking this product.
Contains aspartame (E951), a source of phenylalanine.
Contains carmoisine lake (E122).
Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients listed.
