EllaOne contains the active ingredient Ulipristal Acetate, which works by delaying ovulation, preventing the release of an egg. Therefore there is no egg for any lingering sperm to fertilize. Please note, if ovulation (egg release) has already occurred, ulipristal acetate cannot prevent implantation, and so it cannot stop a pregnancy in this case.
