Doxycycline is an antibiotic belonging to a group of medicines called tetracyclines. Doxycycline is used to treat many different types of infections, including chlamydia. It does this by preventing the bacteria from growing and spreading, and therefore stopping the infection.
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Common side effects include:
- Sensitivity to sunlight
- Nausea/vomiting
- Headaches
- Shortness of breath
- Rashes
Less common but more severe side effects can include an allergic reaction, severe rash, difficulty breathing, stomach ulceration and severe diarrhoea.

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any of the ingredients listed.
