Azithromycin belongs to a group of medicines called macrolide antibiotics. Antibiotics are used to treat infections caused by microorganisms like bacteria.
Azithromycin is used for the treatment of certain infections caused by bacteria that are sensitive to it, including chlamydia.
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Common side effects are:
- Stomach upset
- Headache
- Nausea
- Diarrhoea
