Anbesol Adult Strength Gel can be used by adults, children over 12 years and the elderly for the temporary relief of pain caused by recurrent mouth ulcers and denture
irritation.
It contains lidocaine hydrochloride, chlorocresol and cetylpyridinium chloride. Lidocaine hydrochloride is a local anaesthetic which works by stopping the sensation of pain. Chlorocresol and cetylpyridinium chloride kill bacteria.
Not suitable for teething.
Like all medicines, this product can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Anbesol Adult Strength Gel is a generally well-tolerated medicine with few side effects.
Some have reported developing new ulcers as a result of using this product. It is unclear if this is caused by the product, or a result of other factors.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include wheezing, difficulty breathing, skin reactions, swelling of the face, lips, mouth or throat. Please note, while rare, you must seek out medical assistance if you experience an allergic reaction.

Do not use this product:
- If you have a known allergy to any ingredients listed in the information leaflet.
- If you have a medical condition known as porphyria.
- For a child under 12 years old.
- With other non-prescription or prescription medicines also containing lidocaine.
Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using Anbesol Adult Strength Gel if:
- You have open wounds or damaged areas in the lining of your mouth.
- Your symptoms last longer than 7 days, or recur frequently.
- You are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning to get pregnant or think you might be pregnant.
This medicine contains chlorocresol and the azo dye Ponceau 4R (E124) which may cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
