Thrush is a fungal infection caused by a type of yeast called Candida species, most commonly Candida albicans. It can affect the mouth, throat, vagina, and other parts of the body. Thrush is usually not serious, but it can be uncomfortable.

• Oral thrush: White patches on the tongue, gums, or inside of the cheeks. Redness/soreness, difficulty swallowing and cracking at the corners of the mouth.
• Throat thrush: White, patchy coating on the back of the throat.
• Vaginal thrush: Thick, white, odorless discharge, itching/iritation in the vaginal area, redness/swelling of the vulva or pain during uritating or intercourse.

• Changes in the balance of bacteria in the body: This can happen due to antibiotics, pregnancy, or diabetes.
• Weakened immune system: This can happen due to HIV/AIDS, cancer, or chemotherapy.
• Poor oral hygiene: This can increase the risk of mouth thrush.
• Wearing tight-fitting clothing: This can increase the risk of vaginal thrush.
