Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic used to treat infections of the urinary tract.
When you take nitrofurantoin, it is quickly filtered out of your blood and into your urine. This means that there is a concentrated amount in the urine, which is useful for treating urinary tract infections as the medicine directly targets the site of infection.
Due to this targeted action, nitrofurantoin is used to treat infections in the kidneys, bladder, and other parts of the urinary tract, but not for other types of infections.
