Description
How it works
Tirzepatide activates receptors involved in appetite regulation and blood-sugar control. In practice, most people notice:
- Less hunger and fewer cravings
- Feeling fuller sooner and for longer
- Steadier energy when paired with balanced meals
Who it may be suitable for
- Adults who would benefit from medical help with weight management
- People comfortable with a once-weekly injection routine
- Those able to engage with simple lifestyle habits (regular meals, protein targets, step goals)
Your prescriber will confirm eligibility after reviewing your assessment, medical history, and current medicines.
Side Effects
- Nausea, indigestion/heartburn, reduced appetite, constipation or diarrhoea
- Occasional bloating, belching, or gas
- Headache or fatigue in the first weeks
Tips to improve comfort
- Eat smaller, slower meals; stop at comfortable fullness
- Favour lean protein, fibre, and fluids; go easy on very fatty or spicy foods
- Avoid lying flat right after eating
- If constipation occurs: fluids, fibre, gentle walks; consider a simple laxative if advised
Side effects often settle as your dose stabilises. If symptoms are persistent, let us know.

Additional Info
Important safety information
Do not use Mounjaro if you are pregnant, trying for a baby, or breastfeeding. Tell us if any of the following apply—your prescriber will advise whether Mounjaro is suitable or if extra monitoring is needed:
- Past pancreatitis or gallbladder problems
- Severe or unexplained abdominal pain, especially with vomiting
- Significant gastro-intestinal disease or symptoms
- Kidney or liver problems
- History of thyroid issues or neck masses (we’ll review on a case-by-case basis)
- Taking medicines that affect blood sugar, blood pressure, or stomach emptying
Contraception note: Starting tirzepatide or increasing the dose can affect how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed. We typically advise using a non-oral method or adding condoms for a short period after starting and after each dose increase. If this is relevant to you, we’ll give tailored guidance.
Interactions & monitoring
We check for interactions with your current prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, and supplements. In particular, tell us if you use:
- Diabetes medicines, including insulin or sulfonylureas
- Anticoagulants, thyroid medicines, or stomach-motility drugs
- Any recent steroid courses or herbal supplements
We’ll also suggest simple self-checks (weight/waist, side-effect tracking) during titration.
Storage & handling
- Keep pens refrigerated before first use (do not freeze).
- Follow the in-use storage time on the leaflet (usually can be kept at room temperature after first use for up to 30 days. ).
- Protect from heat and direct light.
- Use a sharps bin for used pens/needles; don’t place them in household waste.

- Signs of dehydration (can occur with ongoing vomiting/diarrhoea).
- Possible allergic reaction (wheezing, swelling, rash with breathing difficulty).

We’re here to support you—message our team through your account at any time.
Directions
How to take Mounjaro (overview of the plan)
- Once weekly injection on the same day each week (e.g., every Sunday).
- Titration (gradual dose increases): you usually start on a lower dose and, if well tolerated, step up over time. This helps minimise tummy-related side effects.
- Where to inject: abdomen, thigh, or upper arm (rotate sites each week).
- With or without food: timing isn’t linked to meals—choose a consistent weekly time that suits you.
Your exact starting dose and any increases are advised by the prescriber. We’ll work with you to give you a personalised titration schedule.
Using the injection pen
- Wash and dry your hands.
- Choose an injection site (abdomen, thigh, or upper arm) and clean the skin.
- Remove the pen cap and follow the pen’s on-device steps (watch the instruction video here: https://info.mkthealthcare.com/uk-mounjaro-obesity?redirect-referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F).
- Inject at 90° to the skin and hold for the recommended time to ensure the full dose is delivered.
- Dispose of the pen in a sharps bin.
If you’re new to injections, our team can talk you through the first dose.
Missed a dose?
-
If you remember within three days take the missed dose and resume your usual weekly day.
-
If it’s been more than three days since your dose was due, skip the missed dose and continue as normal.
Do not take two doses within a short window to “catch up.” If you’re unsure, message our pharmacists.
FAQs
Will I feel the results straight away?
Many people notice reduced appetite within the first couple of weeks. Weight loss builds gradually when you pair the medicine with balanced meals and routine activity.
Can I drink alcohol?
Light to moderate intake is usually acceptable, but alcohol can worsen reflux or nausea and adds calories. If you have diabetes, discuss safe limits with your pharmacist.
Can I stop and restart later?
If you stop for a period, do not restart on a higher dose. Contact us—your prescriber may recommend going back to a lower dose and titrating again.
What if I travel across time zones?
Keep roughly 7 days between doses. You can shift the injection day forward or back—ask us for a simple plan before you go.
Do I need blood tests?
Routine blood tests aren’t mandatory for everyone, but your prescriber may recommend checks based on your history (for example, if you have diabetes or other conditions).
