Description
Hedrin 4% Lotion is a clinically proven, overnight head lice treatment available from 24 HR Pharmacy with UK delivery. Containing 4% dimeticone (a silicone-based compound), Hedrin works by physically coating head lice and disrupting their ability to manage water, causing them to die without the use of traditional insecticides. This pesticide-free formula is effective even against insecticide-resistant head lice and is suitable for adults and children from 6 months old.
Side Effects
Common: Dimeticone is generally well tolerated. Minor adverse effects may include temporary skin irritation, itchy or flaky scalp, and irritation around the eyes if contact occurs.
Uncommon: Single cases of temporary hair loss have been reported.
Rare: Signs of hypersensitivity reactions including rash, hives (urticaria), generalised itching, and breathing difficulties.
If any hypersensitivity symptoms occur, shampoo the product off immediately and seek medical advice if symptoms do not resolve.

Additional Info
For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes - if accidental contact occurs, flush thoroughly with water. Discontinue use at the first sign of skin rash or any hypersensitivity reaction. WARNING: Hedrin is combustible when on hair and in direct contact with an open flame. Keep hair away from sources of ignition including naked flames and burning cigarettes during treatment - treated hair can readily burn if ignited. Care should be taken as the product may cause slip hazards if spilt on smooth surfaces. There is no data to suggest Hedrin cannot be used during pregnancy. Suitable for people with asthma as it contains no solvents. Store at room temperature.
Directions
Apply sufficient lotion to cover dry hair completely from roots to tips, ensuring no part of the scalp is left uncovered. Work the lotion into the hair, spreading it evenly throughout. Allow the hair to dry naturally - do not use a hairdryer. Leave Hedrin on the hair for a minimum of 8 hours or overnight. Wash out thoroughly with normal shampoo, rinsing well with water.
A second treatment should be applied 7 days after the first to kill any lice that may have hatched from surviving eggs.
Children under 6 months should only be treated under medical supervision.
FAQs
How does Hedrin kill head lice without insecticides?
Hedrin contains dimeticone, which physically coats the lice and blocks tiny passages (spiracles) in their exoskeleton that they use to eliminate water. This prevents them from managing their water balance, causing them to become permanently immobile and die. Because it works physically rather than chemically, lice cannot develop resistance.
Why does Hedrin need to be left on for 8 hours?
The 8-hour (or overnight) application time allows the dimeticone to fully coat all lice and their eggs, and gives sufficient time for the physical action to take effect. Shorter application times may not completely eliminate all lice.
Can Hedrin be used on babies?
Hedrin is suitable for adults and children aged 6 months and above. Children under 6 months should only be treated under medical supervision, as their skin may be more sensitive.
Is Hedrin safe for people with asthma?
Yes, Hedrin is suitable for people with asthma. Unlike some traditional treatments, it contains no solvents or strong-smelling chemicals that could trigger asthma symptoms.
Will Hedrin affect coloured hair?
Dimeticone and cyclomethicone (the carrier) are commonly used in shampoos and conditioners, so Hedrin can be used on coloured or bleached hair. However, avoid using Hedrin immediately before colouring as it may prevent the colour from taking properly.
