Side Effects
Uncommon side effects (affecting fewer than 1 in 100 people) include skin irritation, burning sensation, itchy skin and urticaria (hives).
Rarely, sensitivity reactions, rash, redness, inflammation, skin lightening or blurred vision may occur.
Children may occasionally experience irritability.
Severe allergic reactions including facial swelling, breathing difficulty and anaphylaxis are rare but require immediate medical attention - stop use and seek emergency help.
Long-term use may cause skin thinning.

Do not use if allergic to miconazole, hydrocortisone or similar antifungals. Not suitable for cold sores, acne, herpes, chickenpox, shingles, broken skin, ringworm (unless prescribed), or children under 10. Maximum treatment duration 7 days. May damage latex condoms/diaphragms. Wear cotton underwear if cream contacts clothing. Avoid using with warfarin or similar anticoagulants without medical supervision - monitor for unexpected bleeding. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Contains benzoic acid (E210) and butylhydroxyanisole (E320). Available in 15g tube.
Directions
Apply a small amount of cream to the affected area twice daily, rubbing in gently until absorbed.
Wash and dry the infected area thoroughly before each application, using your own towel to prevent spreading infection.
Continue treatment for maximum 7 days only.
Once inflammation subsides, treatment may be continued with Daktarin Cream or Powder (miconazole only) for complete fungal clearance.
Do not use under dressings, nappies or on large body areas.
Do not apply to face, eyes, mucous membranes or genital areas unless directed by doctor.
Wash hands after application unless treating hands.
FAQs
Why does Daktacort contain hydrocortisone as well as antifungal?
The hydrocortisone component rapidly reduces inflammation, redness, itching and discomfort while the miconazole fights the fungal infection. This combination is particularly effective for the initial treatment of inflamed Athlete's Foot or sweat rash where symptoms are causing significant discomfort.
Why can I only use Daktacort for 7 days?
The hydrocortisone (steroid) component should not be used long-term as it can cause skin thinning, especially in elderly patients or on sensitive areas. After 7 days, once inflammation has settled, switch to Daktarin Cream (antifungal only) to complete treatment without steroid-related risks.
Can I use Daktacort for ringworm?
Not unless specifically directed by your doctor. While Daktacort contains an effective antifungal, the steroid component can potentially worsen some ringworm presentations. Consult your pharmacist or doctor for appropriate ringworm treatment.
Why should I avoid Daktacort with warfarin?
Miconazole (even applied topically) can interact with warfarin and similar blood thinners, potentially increasing bleeding risk. If you take anticoagulants, seek medical advice before use and report any unexpected bleeding, bruising, nosebleeds or blood in urine/stools immediately.
What's the difference between sweat rash and Athlete's Foot?
Sweat rash (candidal intertrigo) occurs in warm, moist skin folds - under breasts, armpits, groin - caused by Candida yeast. Athlete's Foot affects the feet, typically between toes, caused by dermatophyte fungi. Daktacort treats both conditions when inflammation is present.
